From concept to creation
Every board begins with a thorough consultation process. We discuss your riding style, experience level, and wave conditions to create the perfect design. Our shapers use both traditional techniques and modern digital tools to draft precise templates that match your specific requirements. This collaborative approach ensures that each board is perfectly tailored to enhance your experience on the water or pavement.
We source sustainable materials that deliver exceptional performance. For our surfboards, we utilize a combination of traditional timber like paulownia and balsa, alongside eco-friendly foam cores and bio-based resins. Our skateboards feature responsibly harvested maple, bamboo, and Australian hardwoods. Each material is carefully selected for its specific properties – flexibility, strength, weight, and environmental impact – ensuring that every board performs brilliantly while minimizing ecological footprint.
Our master shapers bring decades of experience to every board they create. Using traditional tools and techniques, they transform raw materials into precise forms, carefully shaping rails, rocker profiles, and contours. This hands-on approach allows for subtle adjustments that machine shaping simply cannot achieve. Every curve and plane is meticulously crafted to deliver the intended performance characteristics, with continuous refinement throughout the shaping process to ensure perfection.
The finishing stage is where durability meets aesthetics. Our boards receive multiple layers of eco-friendly resin and fiberglass, applied by hand to ensure proper coverage and strength. Between each layer, careful sanding and quality control ensures a flawless finish. Final detailing includes custom artwork, logos, and polishing to create a board that's as beautiful as it is functional. The finishing process can take up to two weeks, as we allow proper curing time between stages to guarantee longevity.
Before any board leaves our workshop, it undergoes rigorous testing and quality control. Our team of experienced riders puts each prototype design through its paces in real-world conditions. For custom boards, we conduct thorough inspections throughout the production process, checking for structural integrity, weight distribution, and finish quality. This commitment to excellence means that every Coastal Board Co. product meets our exacting standards for performance, durability, and craftsmanship.

Sustainable Innovation
Pushing the boundaries of eco-friendly board building
Eco-Friendly Materials Research
At Coastal Board Co., sustainability isn't just a buzzword—it's at the core of our innovation efforts. Our research and development team constantly explores new eco-friendly materials that don't compromise on performance. We've developed proprietary blends of bio-based resins that reduce harmful emissions while maintaining strength and flexibility. Our partnership with marine conservation organizations has led to groundbreaking approaches to recycling ocean plastics into board components.
Recent innovations include our bamboo-reinforced deck construction that reduces the need for fiberglass while increasing strength, and our reclaimed timber program that gives new life to wood that would otherwise go to waste. Every material we use undergoes extensive testing to ensure it meets our strict standards for performance, durability, and environmental impact.
Performance Optimization
Our commitment to innovation extends to performance engineering. Using advanced hydrodynamic and aerodynamic principles, we optimize board designs for specific riding conditions and styles. Our in-house testing facility includes digital modeling software that allows us to simulate performance characteristics before the first cut is made.
We've developed a proprietary flex pattern analysis that maps the dynamic response of different constructions under various conditions. This research has led to our adaptive core technology, which delivers different flex characteristics in key areas of the board for optimal performance. By combining traditional craftsmanship with cutting-edge technology, we're pushing the boundaries of what's possible in board design while staying true to our commitment to sustainability and quality.
